The physicians of Optimal Rehabilitation Associates strive to provide quality comprehensive rehabilitation throughout the continuum of care. Our relationship with rehabilitation providers throughout the city allows us to follow patients from acute injury all the way to the outpatient and home setting. From the acute medical hospitals, long-term acute care, skilled nursing facilities, post-acute facilities, and to the outpatient clinic setting, our physicians can order and manage treatments to optimize function and improve quality of life. Rehabilitation is a comprehensive and dynamic process; our physicians can assist in ensuring the treatments are initiated appropriately according to state of recovery and desired functional goals.

Our physicians are board certified Physiatrists, and specialize in treating injuries and illnesses that result in disability. Dr. Nelson Valena’s interest and expertise is in neurorehabilitation and is one of the few Physiatrists in Houston trained in Brain Injury Rehabilitation. Dr. Hong Shi’s excellence is in general rehabilitation, musculoskeletal medicine, and performing electromyography/nerve conduction studies. Our physicians are well qualified to care for individuals with impairment and disabilities and would be able to follow through in various levels of rehabilitation.

We serve as medical directors of several rehabilitation programs. Our unique relationships with the excellent hospitals in the Houston and surrounding areas allow us to provide comprehensive treatment and access available resources for our patients.
